BUS 443 Week 3 Discussion 2
Please compare and contrast these different approaches to improving processes.
“Six Sigma can be described as a business improvement approach that seeks to find and eliminate causes of defects and errors in manufacturing and service processes by focusing on outputs that are critical to customers and a clear financial return for the organization” (Evans & Lindsay, 2020) Six Sigma is a data driven approach to reduce defects to improve an organization’s performance. Six Sigma uses two sub-methodologies DMAIC and DMADV. DMAIC is for improving existing processes and DMADV is for creating new processes. Lean manufacturing is a systematic process to minimize waste without sacrificing productivity. Total quality management (TMQ) is an organization wide effort to focused on continuous improvement to improve customer quality. TMQ predates Six Sigma and lean. TMQ can vary from company to company but they generally for the same principles.
