BUS 318 Week 3 Strategy and Influence
Identify and explain at least four strategies of managerial influence. Give examples of how each strategy may or may not work when exercising influence, both downward and upward, in organizations. Give examples of each based on experience you have had at a job. Use and cite the course textbook in your initial post. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings.
The four strategies of managerial influence that I will cover are; position power, personal power, information power, and connection power. In section 12.2 of the text, Uhl-Bien, Schermerhorn, & Osborn (2014) define position power as a “the formal hierarchy or authority vested in a particular role” (para. 1). They also define personal power as a power that “resides in the individual and is generated in relationships with others” (para. 1). Breaking down these two particular strategies helps us identify if a person holds power based on either their position or relationship with their team.
